Marathon great Grete Waitz was remembered Wednesday as a modest champion and trailblazer for female runners at a tribute attended by hundreds of fans, sports officials and some of her former competitors.
The nine-time New York Marathon winner died at age 57 on April 19 after a six-year battle with cancer.
