Yuri Kano was in Nagoya, some 300 miles from the magnitude-9.0 earthquake and tsunami that laid waste to Sendai and Northern Japan on March 11.
She was supposed to defend her title in the women's marathon there two days later, a performance she hoped would earn her selection to the national team for this summer's World Championships.
Everything changed in the matter of those six fateful seconds.
