McDonald's-only marathon runner finishes among top racers at Los Angeles event

It went just as I planned," D'Amico said yesterday after completing the 26.2-mile (42.1km) race. "The course was much tougher than I expected and the wind and rain didn't help, but I felt strong."

In the month leading up to the marathon, D'Amico ate 99 meals at McDonald's. His typical daily intake consisted of hotcakes and an Egg McMuffin for breakfast, a grilled chicken sandwich and a large Coke for lunch, and a hamburger and fries for dinner. He allowed himself to drink water and take a daily multivitamin and a runner's supplement.

Geneti sets LA Marathon record of 2:06:35

Markos Geneti set a Los Angeles Marathon record in winning in his debut at 26.2 miles Sunday, while Buzunesh Deba won the women's event to give Ethiopia a sweep.

Geneti opened a big lead on Nicolas Kamakya and two-time defending champion Wesley Korir during the 17th mile and prevailed in 2 hours, 6 minutes, 35 seconds, the second fastest marathon in the world this year.

Barefoot in stretch, Dado wins 3rd Rome marathon

Ethiopia's Firehiwot Dado won her third consecutive Rome marathon Sunday and paid tribute to legendary countryman Abebe Bikila by running the final stretch barefoot.

Dickson Kiptolo Chumba of Kenya won the men's race in a personal-best 2 hours, 8 minutes, 45 seconds, beating defending champion Siraj Gena by 36 seconds.

Wykes, Coolsaet shine in Big Apple

Dylan Wykes moved to No. 3 all-time on the Canadian half-marathon list, while Reid Coolsaet also proved he’s in world-class shape, beating Americans Meb Keflezighi and Ryan Hall at the New York City Half-Marathon on Sunday.

Britain’s Mo Farrah won the event in 1:00:23, just ahead of Ethiopia’s Gebre Gebremariam and Galen Rupp of the United States. Wykes was the second-best North American runner, finishing 11th in 1:02:14. Coolsaet was 13th in 1:02:42.
